Energetic Riesling with generous, textural and saline fruit, nervy acidity and a long, lush finish
Aromas of fresh peach, citrus and lime zest, orange blossom, fresh herbs, white pepper and a spicy, nervy backbone. The palate has a lovely mid-palate generosity cut through with scintillating acidity and a long, lush finish, with fleshy stone fruit underpinned by a mineral, slightly salty drive. A fine bottling with early drinking appeal. Drink or hold.
97 points Ryan Montgomery for James Suckling, September 2026
The Loosen Barry wines are a Clare Valley Riesling-collaboration between the Barrys and their Mosel-based family friends, the Loosens. Wild fermented and aged on lees in stainless steel for two years, the name of this wine derives from the German word Schieferhügel which describes the traditional, steep vineyard slopes of the Mosel wine region.
Richly flavoured yet precise, the wine balances the generosity of the vintage with the hallmark freshness and drive of Clare Valley Riesling.
