From biodynamically farmed vineyards on the western bank of the Rhône, Bout d’Zan shows Mas de Libian’s ability to combine generosity with freshness. The Thibon family works old Grenache and Rhône varieties rooted in sandy, stony soils alive with wild herbs, shaping wines that feel energetic rather than heavy. The estate’s philosophy centres on living soils and minimal intervention, allowing the landscape to speak clearly through the fruit.
The blend leans on ripe Grenache supported by savoury varieties that add structure and spice. Fermentation is gentle and natural, preserving brightness and aromatic lift. Ageing is tuned to keep the wine juicy and open, avoiding excess oak. The result is a southern Rhône red that feels relaxed but characterful.
Deep ruby in colour, the aromas open with blackberry, plum and red cherry layered with garrigue herbs, pepper and earthy spice. The palate is medium bodied and supple, with dark fruit wrapped in soft tannins and fresh acidity. Flavours of berry, liquorice and savoury herbs carry into a smooth, mouthwatering finish.
It pairs beautifully with grilled meats, roasted vegetables, stews and Mediterranean dishes rich in herbs and olive oil. Drinking beautifully now, it will hold comfortably for five to seven years.
