From the sandy hills of Roero, just across the river from Barolo, Arneis finds its most natural home, and Mauro Molino treats it with the same care as his Nebbiolo. These lighter, freer draining soils tend to give wines with lift and perfume rather than weight, and the 2024 captures that easy, expressive style beautifully.
The aromatics are immediately open and inviting, pear, white peach and citrus peel with a soft floral note and a hint of almond. There’s a gentle ripeness, but it stays fresh and clean rather than overtly fruity.
On the palate it’s all about texture and drinkability. Orchard fruits glide across a softly rounded frame, with enough acidity to keep things lively. A faint savoury edge and a touch of bitterness on the finish add interest, giving it that classic Arneis character without becoming heavy.
This is a great one to play with at the table. It works beautifully with seafood, especially grilled prawns or a simple fish dish, but it’s just as good with vegetable driven plates like zucchini flowers, a fennel and citrus salad, or a creamy burrata with olive oil and herbs. Even a light pasta with lemon and parmesan feels right at home.
Best enjoyed young while its freshness and charm are front and centre over the next few years.
