Pale straw with aromas of grapefruit, brown pear and crunchy green apple with daubs of clotted cream, white flowers, crushed stone, almond paste and grapefruit pith. Slinky and detailed with a bright, nervy line, a touch of gingery spice on the palate and plenty of zesty drinking enjoyment. Drink 2024 to 2027.

93 points Dave Brookes for Halliday Wine Companion, October 2024

Sourced from the St Matthias Vineyard, this has a savory nose with gently spiced pear fruits and some peaches too. The palate is crunchy, tastes of peach and lemon and has a nutty almond-flavored finish. Drink now.

92 points James Suckling

Moorilla was established in 1958 by Claudio Alcorso, making it one of Tasmania's oldest vineyards and a genuine pioneer of cool-climate viticulture in the state. The estate expanded to the St Matthias Vineyard near Launceston in later years, and it is from this site that the Muse tier wines draw their fruit. The Muse range sits in the middle of Moorilla's three-tier portfolio, described by the winery as old world remade in the new with an emphasis on restraint, texture and site expression.

St Matthias benefits from the long, cool ripening conditions of northern Tasmania, producing aromatic whites of real precision and mineral clarity. The 2024 Pinot Gris was whole-bunch pressed to preserve freshness and fermented with an emphasis on preserving the variety's natural texture and aromatic lift.

The result is a wine of detail and elegance. Pale straw in the glass, with a fragrant nose of grapefruit, brown pear and crunchy green apple, layered with white flowers, crushed stone and almond paste. The palate is slinky and precise, with a bright, nervy acidity, a touch of gingery spice and a finish that is clean, long and genuinely refreshing.

Drink now through 2027 with light SE Asian dishes with ginger and citrus.
