Once again vinified entirely in tank, the 2024 Chablis 1er Cru Beauregard unfurls in the glass with notes of white flowers, nashi pear, grapefruit and lime peel. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, racy and vibrant, concluding with a sapid, moderately persistent finish.

Opens with aromas of ripe mirabelle plum, peach and apricot. While it does not have the same mineral character as some of the wines in this cellar, the lush feel on the palate and silky sweetness of the fruit are enough to recommend it. The grapes are from 0.6ha on a curving slope that concentrates the sunlight; in 2024 the site produced a respectable 20 hl/ha and a delicious wine.

Les Beauregards is one of the coolest of all the Chablis Premiers Crus, due to its altitude (300 metres ASL) and location (at the very end of Chablis’ Left Bank). It’s also one of the steepest sites, meaning the clay soils are shallow, and the limestone is never far from the surface. While Moreau-Naudet's tiny, 0.16-hectare parcel has been in the Estate for decades, it was replanted in 2001 with mass-selection cuttings from the family’s most treasured vines. Now that the new vines have reached 20 years’ age, Virginie Moreau believes they are delivering the sufficient intensity to join the Moreau-Naudet 1er cru lineup. So do we! High on the hill, this is one of the last Moreau-Naudet vineyards to be picked. The wines we have tasted thus far have all shared excellent tension, and floral and pithy citrus notes that course through the palate. There is also a more savoury, spicy edge to the fruit. Salinity is a given. Raised in tank only.
Moreau Naudet has become one of the most coveted domaines in Chablis, with its modern reputation shaped by the late Stéphane Moreau. His approach combined meticulous vineyard work, natural fermentations and long élevage, producing Chablis with texture and personality rather than simply lean acidity. Following Stéphane’s sudden death in 2016, his wife Virginie continued the domaine and the philosophy they had built together, keeping these distinctive wines firmly among the region’s most exciting bottles.
Beauregard lies on the left bank of the Serein, within the Premier Cru vineyards around Chichée. Its well exposed slopes and Kimmeridgian limestone and marl give Chardonnay plenty of mineral drive, but Beauregard can also have a slightly broader, more generous shape than some of the cooler left bank sites. The difficult 2024 season dramatically reduced yields across Chablis, yet careful growers produced concentrated wines with bright natural acidity and excellent definition.
Pale straw gold with green highlights. Lemon zest, white peach and crisp pear open into grapefruit and citrus blossom, with oyster shell, crushed chalk and fresh almond underneath. A little fennel and subtle smoke emerge with air. The palate has an appealing rounded texture through the middle, quickly tightened by vibrant acidity. Preserved lemon, grapefruit and chalk gradually become more savoury, leaving a long, saline finish.
Grilled prawns with lemon, fennel and parsley have enough sweetness to meet Beauregard’s slightly broader shape. Crab and zucchini risotto, scallops with cauliflower, roast snapper or asparagus with toasted almonds would also be right at home. Cellaring: Drink from 2027 to 2038.
