A blend of the 1946 and 1965 vines at Rosehill. Twelve months in French oak (15% new). Still very primary and fully expressive of the warm vintage, with strawberry conserve and raspberry-drop aromas. The intensity of the sweet fruit is phenomenal, with a pleasing tart cherry note and underlying spice providing a counterbalance to the ripeness. Long and intense, with a warming alcohol presence. If drinking young, decanting is recommended to open the fruit and harmonise the elements. Drink to 2044.

96 points Toni Paterson MW  for Halliday Wine Companion, June 2026

Planted in 1946 and later plantings in 1965. This bottling takes fruit from the lower Northern aspect that makes the use of its slow ripening. There is a charm to this wine, with friendly affable ripe red fruits, rhubarb and blood plum. Some strawberry cream too, silky tannins and a pulp like consistency that nestle into the front of your palate. Perhaps a portion of new oak, some warm cocoa tones make themselves known. This cuddles into your soul and makes you feel right at home. Another wine for arresting your heart and falling into love with the sites of Mount Pleasant. Pair with lasagna the oozey gooey kind. Drink now or cellar mid term for 4-6 years.

95 points Shanteh Wale for Wine Pilot, June 2026

Deep-ish purple-red colour; smoky graphite and char-oak aromas, fruit tucked in the background, as evidenced by the palate which has terrific intensity and good concentration, a taut, firm structure, a core of sweet fruit and extra length, finishing with a burst of chocolate. Impressive young shiraz which already drinks well but will richly reward cellaring. Drink to 2039.

More about this wine

Purchased by Maurice O’Shea in 1945, planted the year after, and with later plantings in 1965, Rosehill’s lower northern aspect is one of the defining features of the vineyard. It remains one of the most significant vineyards in the Hunter Valley, with ancient volcanic soils and considered vine orientation giving the shiraz here a composure and precision, the bright, red-fruited and elegant wines rewarding the patient.

About Mount Pleasant

The legendary Mount Pleasant estate was founded by one of the true visionaries of Australian wine, Maurice O’Shea. The vineyards include plantings of ancestral vines of 1880, as well as Australia’s oldest mother vine Pinot Noir planted in 1921. It is home to some of the first fine wines of Australia, and just five winemakers have left their mark over its 100-year history, maintaining its status as a benchmark of Hunter classics.
