Mount Difficulty has become one of Central Otago's benchmark wineries, with its vineyards overlooking the dramatic landscapes of Bannockburn where schist soils, warm summer days and cool alpine nights create Pinot Noir of exceptional character. The winery has earned international acclaim for wines that capture the rugged beauty and unmistakable personality of New Zealand's southernmost wine region.
Roaring Meg takes its name from the historic gold mining water race that winds through the hills of Central Otago. Sourced from selected estate vineyards across Bannockburn, Lowburn and Pisa, the wine offers an approachable yet distinctly regional expression of Pinot Noir, combining vibrant fruit with savoury complexity and silky structure.
The colour is a brilliant ruby red with youthful crimson highlights. Aromas of black cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry leap from the glass alongside hints of thyme, baking spice and forest floor. The palate is vibrant and beautifully balanced, layering juicy red and dark berry fruits over fine tannins and bright acidity. Subtle notes of dried herbs and earthy spice emerge with air, leading to a long, fresh finish that reflects the purity of Central Otago fruit.
A wonderful match for duck breast, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon or roast lamb with rosemary and garlic. Drink over the next five to eight years while its vibrant fruit and savoury complexity remain beautifully intertwined.
