Clive, a seasoned winemaker known for his meticulous attention to detail and deep understanding of Marlborough’s terroir, has helped Nautilus Estate gain recognition for producing elegant, food-friendly wines. The Pinot Gris grapes for this wine are sourced from select vineyards in Marlborough’s Wairau and Awatere Valleys. The Wairau Valley provides ripe stone fruit flavors thanks to its warm, sunny days and gravelly soils, while the Awatere Valley contributes fresh acidity and aromatic lift, owing to its cooler climate and proximity to the coast.

The winemaking process is focused on enhancing texture and complexity. The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and gently pressed to preserve delicate aromatics. Fermentation takes place in a combination of stainless steel tanks and neutral French oak barrels, with a portion of the wine undergoing wild fermentation. Post-fermentation, the wine is left on fine lees for several months, which adds a creamy texture and layers of complexity.
