2024 Pascal Reverdy Sancerre Terre de Maimbray, Loire Valley

Pascal Reverdy Sancerre Terre de Maimbray is a beautifully pure and finely etched Sauvignon Blanc grown in the limestone rich, north facing hillsides of Maimbray, a tiny hamlet outside Sury-en-Vaux. The Reverdy family has tended these slopes for generations, working their vineyards by hand and farming with remarkable precision. The soils here are classic terres blanches heavy clay over Kimmeridgian limestone that naturally produce Sancerre of depth, tension and chalky mineral drive. Fruit is hand picked and pressed gently before cool fermentation in stainless steel, followed by ageing on fine lees to add polish and quiet savoury detail without touching the wine’s crystalline energy.

The aromatics are lifted and beautifully focused. Lime zest, white peach and crisp pear lead the way, joined by grapefruit, gooseberry and delicate white florals. Beneath the fruit sits a clear stony core: crushed chalk, flint, cold river rock and a faint hint of sea salt that nods to the limestone’s ancient marine origins. As the wine opens, nuances of fresh herbs, green almond and fennel frond add gentle complexity.

The palate is taut, vibrant and wonderfully textural. Citrus and orchard fruit move across a sleek, mineral spine, guided by mouthwatering acidity that keeps every edge precise. Flavours of lemon pith, grapefruit, pear skin and subtle passionfruit give clarity and purity, while lees ageing brings a soft, silken sheen without muting the wine’s tension. The finish is long, dry and beautifully chalky, leaving citrus oil, wet stone and a cool herbal echo that feels unmistakably Sancerre. It will develop gracefully over three to five years, gaining savoury depth while remaining linear and bright.

A fantastic companion for goat cheese, oysters, grilled white fish, asparagus dishes, sushi, herbed roast chicken or simple tomato and basil salads. It is Sancerre at its most elegant and terroir true: pure, detailed and refreshingly alive.
