Few Rhône Valley wines have such a recognisable name as Parallèle 45, named after the 45th parallel north that passes close to the historic cellars of Paul Jaboulet Aîné in Tain l'Hermitage. Founded in 1834, the house has been part of the Rhône's winemaking story for nearly two centuries. Owned by the Frey family since 2006, it continues to produce characterful wines that celebrate the region's remarkable diversity.
The 2024 Côtes du Rhône Rouge is a classic Southern Rhône blend, led by Grenache and Syrah. Warm Mediterranean sunshine encourages ripe, generous fruit, while careful winemaking preserves freshness and the savoury character that makes these reds such terrific food companions. It is an appealing introduction to the Jaboulet style, with plenty of personality at an approachable price.
Bright ruby red with violet highlights. Juicy black cherry, raspberry and ripe plum mingle with cracked pepper, liquorice and fragrant thyme. The palate is supple and medium bodied, with lively berry fruit, soft tannins and a gentle earthy character. Hints of black olive, rosemary and sweet spice linger through a satisfying, savoury finish.
Try it with lamb kofta and smoky baba ganoush, grilled eggplant with harissa and chickpeas, or a rustic tomato and olive tart. A slightly cooler serving temperature makes it particularly enjoyable with Mediterranean dishes.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2029. A deliciously approachable Rhône red made for enjoying while its fruit is bright and inviting.
