Year in and year out, this remains one of my favourite sauvignon blanc sémillon blends, albeit with an important inclusion of chardonnay and chenin, which completes what is always an impeccably made wine. It has structure, fruit intensity and tremendous appeal, with lots of lovely, crunchy tropical fruit on the nose and through the palate. It was a warm year, yet well-managed fruit in the vineyard has resulted in a wine that stacks up well and, as always, delivers exactly what you want from the style.

The Pierro L.T.C. Sauvignon Blanc Semillon from Margaret River is a crisp, vibrant and finely balanced white that reflects both the region’s maritime climate and Pierro’s hallmark precision. The name L.T.C. stands for Little Touch of Chardonnay, a clever nod to the blend’s composition: Sauvignon Blanc brings bright aromatics, Semillon adds structure and longevity, and a small amount of Chardonnay contributes texture and complexity. Crafted by Dr Mike Peterkin, Pierro’s founder and winemaker, this wine has long been a benchmark in Margaret River for its sophistication and food-friendly style.

In the glass it is pale straw with green highlights. The bouquet is aromatic and lifted, showing passionfruit, citrus blossom and gooseberry layered with lime zest, lemongrass and a subtle mineral edge. On the palate it is medium-bodied and refreshing, with zesty citrus and tropical fruit flavours carried by crisp acidity and a fine, chalky texture. A hint of creamy complexity from the Chardonnay adds depth, while the finish is long, clean and refreshing.

Food pairings lean into its freshness and energy: grilled prawns, oysters, sushi, Thai green curry, or goat’s cheese and herb salads. It’s a perfect summer wine, but it also has the structure to develop gracefully over 5 to 7 years, gaining honeyed and toasty notes with bottle age.
