Pecorino grown and made in a seaside wine region seems apt, and full of wonderful seafoody potential. This is spot-on for the variety, crisp, grassy, crackling with briny acidity, lemon-lime characters laid in delicately, a touch of pear in there too. Ultra fresh, ultrafine, not trying too hard, but delivering utterly delicious and vibrant, pretty white wine, with salty, fried things for sure in the future for those who drink this wickedly gulpable white wine. Drink to 2027.

92 points Mike Bennie for Halliday Wine Companion, August 2024

Pecorino is a high-quality white grape variety originating in the Le Marche region of Central Italy. Environment and winemaking pending, it can be made in a variety of styles that include white and sparkling wines alike.

This wine was made from night-picked fruit, crushed on arrival to the winery and cool fermented in stainless steel ahead of early bottling for a light, dry and vibrant style with delicate fruit that is at its best with simple, fresh seafood or simply as an aperitif.

About this producer

Primo Estate is a family business established in McLaren Vale in 1973 by Primo and Santina Grilli, migrants from the Le Marche region of Central Italy, with first wines made from the 1979 vintage by their son Joe.

Third generation Matteo Grilli has now taken the lead in charting a course for the future, with estate grown fruit from grape vines and olives remaining at the heart of the operations. Experienced winemaker Tom Garrett is his go-to man at the winery.
