Ricasoli Barone Chianti is a vibrant, classically styled Tuscan red from one of Italy’s most historic wine families. The Ricasoli lineage stretches back to the eleventh century and is famously linked to the creation of the original Chianti formula by Baron Bettino Ricasoli in the eighteen seventies. Today the estate continues that legacy with a modern, quality focused approach, sourcing fruit from hillside vineyards around Gaiole in Chianti where Sangiovese thrives on rocky galestro and alberese soils. These high altitude plots bring purity, lifted aromatics and bright acidity, while warm days ensure generous flavour development.
The wine opens with fragrant notes of red cherry, ripe raspberry and wild strawberry supported by violet, sweet herbs and a gentle savoury edge. Underneath the fruit sits a classic Chianti signature of warm earth, cedar and a faint spice that reflects both the terroir and the careful use of large format oak. As the wine breathes, hints of dried rose, red plum and a touch of balsamic emerge.
On the palate it is medium bodied, fresh and beautifully balanced. Juicy red fruits glide across fine, chalk dust tannins with a lively line of acidity that keeps everything energetic. Flavours of cherry skin, pomegranate and subtle spice lead into a clean, savoury finish with echoes of herbs, terracotta and a little mineral grip. It is wonderfully drinkable now yet will evolve gracefully over four to six years, gaining added depth and softness.
A versatile partner for tomato based pasta, wood fired pizza, grilled pork, roasted vegetables, charcuterie, Pecorino or Tuscan bean dishes. It captures everything people love about Chianti: brightness, charm and a proud sense of history.
