2024 Ronco dei Tassi Friulano DOP, Friuli-Venezia Giulia

From the rolling hills of the Collio zone in Friuli Venezia Giulia comes a benchmark expression of Friulano from one of the area’s most respected estates. Ronco dei Tassi was founded in the late 1980s by Fabio Coser and has become synonymous with precision, hillside viticulture and wines that reflect the ponca soils of the Collio. These layered marl and sandstone soils, combined with Adriatic breezes and Alpine influence, create ideal conditions for Friulano, the region’s signature white grape formerly known as Tocai. The estate focuses on low yields and careful vineyard work to highlight texture, minerality and varietal character, positioning its wines among the finest in Friuli.

Pale straw with golden highlights, the aromatics are elegant and distinctive. White peach, pear and green apple unfold alongside delicate almond blossom and a subtle herbal note. A gentle mineral lift, almost saline in character, reflects the ponca soils that define Collio wines.

On the palate it is dry, medium bodied and beautifully textured. Orchard fruit and citrus glide across a line of vibrant acidity, supported by a soft, almost creamy mid palate that gives depth without heaviness. A characteristic almond nuance appears on the finish, a hallmark of quality Friulano, lingering alongside citrus peel and mineral freshness. It is both refreshing and quietly complex, offering balance and regional authenticity.

Pair with prosciutto San Daniele, grilled prawns, seafood risotto, roast chicken with herbs or aged Montasio cheese. It drinks beautifully in its youth for vibrancy and clarity, yet will cellar confidently for five to eight years, developing honeyed and nutty complexity while retaining freshness.
