Trophy Best White Wine in Show 2025 International Cool Climate Wine Show

Gold 2025 International Cool Climate Wine Show

A poor flowering season and certainly a very trying vintage for vignerons has produced a concentrated and minuscule release for wine lovers. A touch of flintiness sits flush with white peach, nectarine, toasted hazelnut and grapefruit pith. The acidity is steely and minerally led – mouth-puckering in the best sense. Finger lime, ashed goat's cheese and orchard florals to close. Drinking well now, but cellar and follow its trajectory.

94 points Halliday Wine Companion (Katrina Butler, November 2025)

Light to medium lemon yellow colour. Yellow peach and bacon fat aromas. Full and detailed with ripe stone fruit, roast cashew, bacon fat and nougat characters. Bright acidity ensures harmony and length, finishing with a fine grip. Drink 2026–2035.

Sidewood Estate has earned a reputation for producing elegant cool-climate wines. Carefully tended vineyard sites, altitude, long ripening and rocky soils combine to give Chardonnay great tension and refinement. The grapes were handpicked from selected low yielding vines before being chilled in cool rooms for 24 hours. Whole-bunch pressed, then wild-yeast fermented in 100% large format French oak barrels for ten months. The finest barrels are then painstakingly selected to bear the Mappinga label.

This generously complex wine showcases white peach, nectarine, and grapefruit aromas leading to delightful flavours of grilled hazelnut and finger lime, all punctuated by a slaty, mineral-driven acidity. The wine is tight and racy with fine oak tannins to support this powerfully
structured Chardonnay. A wine which will reward careful cellaring.
