Catalina Sounds Classic Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough is a beautifully pure and vibrant expression of the region’s iconic white variety. The winery was founded in 2005 and takes its name from the majestic Catalina flying boats that once crossed the skies above Marlborough’s Wairau Valley. Today it is led by winemaker Matt Ward, whose focus is on crafting wines of finesse, balance and texture that reflect the cool maritime influence of the region.

The fruit for this Sauvignon Blanc comes from premium sites across the Wairau and Southern Valleys, areas known for their gravelly alluvial soils and cool, dry climate. Long sunny days build ripe tropical fruit flavours, while chilly nights preserve crisp acidity. The grapes are harvested in the cool early morning to lock in aromatics and freshness, then fermented at low temperatures in stainless steel to highlight the variety’s lively character. A brief period of lees contact adds a gentle creaminess to the palate.

In the glass it shows a pale straw colour with a green hue. The aroma bursts with passionfruit, lime zest, gooseberry and freshly cut herbs. On the palate it is bright and juicy, with layers of citrus, tropical fruit and subtle minerality giving precision and drive. The finish is long, clean and refreshing, showing all the hallmarks of top quality Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc made with care and restraint.
