Lots to enjoy on the flavour front, from white nectarine and citrus to the dusting of spices. Bright acidity, feather-light lees and oak inputs add to the appeal. It’s retrained yet not lean, vibrant, zesty and tangy. Not complex but refreshing as much as satisfying. Drink 2025 to 2031.

92 points Jane Faulkner for Halliday Wine Companion, July 2025

Aromas of lemon butter, grapefruit, stone fruit and flint. The medium-bodied palate has a generous texture and bright acidity, leading into a creamy, fruit-driven finish with nice minerals and a touch of baking spices. Well-balanced. Drink or hold.

92 points James Suckling, April 2025

Stonier is one of the oldest and most respected names on the Mornington Peninsula, with vines in the ground since 1978. Now back in local family hands after a period of corporate ownership, the winery has refocused on quality and site expression, converting its vineyards to organic farming and working with long-term grower relationships across the southern Peninsula.

The Chardonnay is sourced from select cool-climate grower vineyards on the southern side of the Peninsula, where the maritime influence of Bass Strait keeps temperatures measured and acidity naturally bright. It is made in a style that sits comfortably between restraint and generosity, with the vitality of cool climate fruit balanced by subtle lees and oak handling.

The 2024 is bright and immediately appealing. White nectarine, citrus and grapefruit on the nose, with flint, lemon butter and a dusting of warm spice. The palate is medium-bodied and generous in texture, with vibrant acidity, creamy fruit and a mineral freshness on the finish. Retrained yet satisfying, this is a wine that delivers well above its price point.

Serve alongside pan-roasted fish, lightly dressed crab or a simple chicken dish. Drink now through 2030.
