2026 Rosé of the Year. JP writes: Following on from the Halliday Wine Companion Rosé of the Year Award for the '22 and '23 vintages, the '24 has big shoes to fill. It doesn't disappoint. Maintains the pretty-as-a-picture salmon-rose hues and flavours that boast serious rosé cred. A blend of syrah, cabernet sauvignon and sangiovese with a dash of viognier. Lifted spring blossom, musk, cranberry, wild strawberry and cherry with biscuit notes. Gently creamy on the palate, flavours run even and deep, enhanced by a spiciness and a lively acid drive.

The Sutton Grange Fairbank Rosé from Bendigo is a vibrant, savoury and refreshing rosé crafted with the same attention to detail that has made Sutton Grange one of central Victoria’s most respected biodynamic estates. Fairbank is the label dedicated to wines that are bright, expressive and made for immediate enjoyment, with the rosé showcasing the estate’s Rhône varietals – typically Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre – in a lighter, more playful style.

In the glass it shows a pale salmon pink. The bouquet is fragrant and lifted, with aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant layered with citrus zest, rose petal and hints of spice. On the palate it is dry and textural, with juicy red fruits carried by bright acidity and a fine mineral edge. A savoury, herbal thread adds complexity, while the finish is long, crisp and refreshingly clean.

Food pairings match its lively and versatile personality: grilled prawns, Provençal-style roast chicken, Niçoise salad, or antipasto with charcuterie and soft cheeses. It is also a wonderful summer aperitif. Best enjoyed young for freshness and vibrancy, though it can develop added savoury layers over 2 to 3 years.
