A very light, bright crimson. A very pretty and perfumed TarraWarra pinot. It's all red cherry and cranberries together with a little spice and lifted, floral aromas. The theme continues on the energetic, sapid and very nicely balanced palate. I like, too, how the wine relies as much on its bright acidity for structure as it does on its silky tannins. Enjoy now and over the next four to six years.

TarraWarra Estate Pinot Noir, Yarra Valley, is a classic expression of cool climate Australian Pinot Noir from one of the region’s most established estates. TarraWarra was founded in the early 1980s and quickly became a reference point for Yarra Valley wine, with estate vineyards planted on gentle slopes of volcanic and clay loam soils. The cool Yarra climate, combined with elevation and long growing seasons, allows Pinot Noir to ripen slowly, preserving perfume, freshness and detail. The wine is shaped by a philosophy of balance and site expression, with winemaking that favours gentle extraction and restraint. Under the guidance of Sarah Fagan, TarraWarra’s Pinot Noir has developed a reputation for consistency, elegance and a strong sense of place.

In the glass, the wine shows a bright crimson ruby colour with excellent clarity. Aromas are lifted and inviting, revealing red cherry, wild strawberry and cranberry, followed by rose petal, dried herbs and subtle spice. The palate is medium bodied and finely poised, with pure red fruit flavours, silky tannins and a fresh line of acidity that gives length and energy. There is a savoury undertone and gentle earthiness that adds complexity without weight, making it both immediately appealing and quietly serious. This is a versatile food wine, pairing beautifully with roast chicken, duck, pork, mushroom based dishes and herb driven cuisine. While delicious now for its vibrancy and charm, it will cellar comfortably for five to eight years, gaining savoury depth and textural complexity over time.
