The much-loved and freakishly consistent Joshua – a grenache, shiraz and mataro blend – is again on form in the excellent '24 vintage. Juicy with plum, cranberry and raspberry fruits and layered with exotic spice and hints of dried citrus rind, blossom, dried meats and earth. Pure and plummy with a gentle slide into savoury on the finish, it's built for effortless consumption and it is at that which it excels. Drink to 2040.

Vanilla pod and chocolate-dipped raspberry notes lure you in. The palate presents a ride of glossy red berries, sweet spices and crushed rose petals. It flows nicely across the palate; there's no jags to interrupt. The tannins are fine and sculpted, cupping the intense core. This holds mass appeal. Drink to 2030.

Kym Teusner was raised on a sheep and cereal farm on the banks of the Murray River. While studying business in Adelaide, he was fascinated by a Barossa Valley Cabernet that led to all-consuming obsession with wine and travels to wine regions around the globe. Coming home, his studies shifted formally to oenology and landed him roles at Torbreck and Rolf Binder, with a dedicated small cellar at the latter becoming the home for his first wines. 2008 saw the first full-time vintage for his label, culminating in the construction of a bespoke winery in Nuriootpa.

Teusner Wines is a negociant producer working with grape growing families across the Barossa. Many of these families have lived in the Barossa since the early days of settlement and possess in-depth, multi-generational knowledge about growing conditions, unique terroir variations and the distinct intricacies of local sites. Kym’s mutually respectful relationship with growers and his gentle winemaking approach are at the core of all Teusner wines.

Joshua was the very first wine released under the Teusner label and named after the son of Mick Page who was a founding partner for Teusner Wines. It celebrates the blend of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz that is the bedrock of Rhone Valley and Barossa Valley alike. Mataro plays a significant role in Kym’s iteration, while Grenache always sets the base tone. All three varieties thrived in the long, dry season of 2024. The fruit for the 2024 Joshua was sourced from Ebenezer, Williamstown, Seppeltsfield and Tanunda. The wine follows an established style, with vinification and maturation entirely in stainless steel capturing the purity and brightness of fruit. The final blend is 61% Grenache, 29% Mataro and 10% Shiraz.

Alluring and fragrant, red and black fruit invite in, revealing hints of spice, chocolate and beef jerky. The palate picks up all of that, with a savoury game note across the juicy fruit that feels silky and seamless.

Joshua is everyone’s favourite dinner-time guest, ready to drink now while bottles forgotten in the cellar will be enjoyed years from now. Good options at the table include Mousakhan-style lamb shanks, or whole-roasted sweet onions and shallots with thyme, puy lentils, and goat's curd.
