Tomich Q96 Chardonnay from the Adelaide Hills is a polished, textural and beautifully expressive white that showcases the Tomich family’s focus on cool climate precision and sustainable vineyard practices. The fruit comes from high altitude sites in Woodside where rolling hills, cold nights and long, even ripening seasons give Chardonnay lifted aromatics and naturally vibrant acidity. The vineyard soils are a mix of sandy loam over clay with veins of quartz and shale, contributing a fine mineral thread and excellent drainage. Grapes are picked in the cool morning, whole bunch pressed for purity, wild fermented in French oak and matured on lees to build savoury depth while preserving the brightness that defines this wine. The Q96 range highlights the estate’s top parcels, chosen for their concentration, balance and ability to express place with clarity.

The aromatics open with lemon curd, grapefruit pith and white peach, supported by nectarine, green apple and subtle melon. Lees ageing brings almond meal, hazelnut, nougat and a gentle brioche softness, while the cool Adelaide Hills climate adds hints of flint, sea spray and crushed quartz. As the wine breathes, notes of chamomile, jasmine, vanilla bean and a light struck match nuance emerge, creating a bouquet that is both elegant and quietly complex.

The palate is sleek, finely textured and beautifully balanced. Citrus and stone fruit glide across a silky frame enriched by wild fermentation and time on lees, yet the wine remains taut thanks to its natural acidity. Flavours of lemon zest, peach skin, pear, green apple and subtle spice unfold with poise, supported by roasted nuts and a whisper of oak that shapes without overwhelming. A cool mineral line runs through the wine, adding length and definition. The finish is long, pure and refreshing, lingering with citrus oil, florals and delicate savoury lift. With a few years in bottle, it deepens into hazelnut, honeyed and lightly truffled territory while maintaining its clean line.

Beautiful with roast chicken, scallops in brown butter, grilled whiting, prawn and citrus pasta, creamy vegetable tarts, mushroom and thyme risotto, sushi or triple cream cheeses. It’s a modern Adelaide Hills Chardonnay with finesse, energy and quiet sophistication.
