Medium crimson. Pretty strawberry pastille, red cherry, talc/marzipan aromas with hints of violet. Supple and lacy textured with lovely creamy red fruits and underlying persistent chalky tannins. The acidity and aniseed line keep it fresh and animated. Pretty exceptional for its price, RRP $30. 48% grenache, 31% mataro, 10% carignan, 6% counoise, 5% shiraz. Drink to 2030.

Cuvée Juveniles is an iconic name in modern Barossan wine, named after the famous Parisian wine bar, and I know it was a gateway drug for me early in my wine career. This year sees a blend of 48% grenache, 31% mataro, 10% carignan, 6% counoise and 5% shiraz, and it's still a crunchy, juicy, easy-drinking style of wine that hits all the right buttons. Raspberry, red plum, cranberry and red apple-skin notes with layers of exotic spice, Chinese barbecue joint, citrus blossom, crushed rock and rose petals. Yeah! Drink to 2041.

The 2024 Cuvée Juveniles leads with pomegranate and strawberry, licorice, dried bay leaf and tapenade. In the mouth, the wine is pretty, fresh, a little slippery and loaded with flavor, driven by savory tannin. Medium-bodied, spicy and fine, it's a blend of 48% Grenache, 31% Mataro (for those playing at home, i.e., not Australia or Portugal, this is Mourvèdre or Monastrell), 10% Carignan, 6% Counoise and the balance Shiraz. The wine was matured in large-format older oak and stainless steel where possible in order to maintain and protect the freshness and detail in the fruit. Drink to 2034.

Blended as a celebration of Barossa’s old vine heritage, this wine brings together fruit from some of the region’s most treasured growers in a style designed for pure drinkability. Torbreck created Cuvée Juveniles as a nod to the great bistro wines of Europe, generous, characterful reds meant for the table rather than the cellar, yet still grounded in serious vineyard pedigree. The Barossa’s warm climate and ancient soils deliver depth and ripeness, while careful blending keeps the wine energetic and approachable.

The philosophy is simple but deliberate. Preserve the brightness of Grenache and the savoury weight of Mataro and Shiraz without pushing extraction. The result is a wine that feels plush and expressive but never heavy, carrying the warmth of the Barossa in a relaxed, food loving frame.

In the glass it shows a deep ruby with purple tones. Aromas burst with blackberry, raspberry and plum, layered with liquorice, spice and a hint of dried herbs. There is an immediate sense of generosity, but also freshness that keeps the bouquet lively.

The palate is medium to full bodied and juicy, with dark berry fruit wrapped in soft tannins and a bright acid line that makes the wine dangerously drinkable. Flavours echo the nose, ripe berries, spice and a gentle savoury note, finishing smooth and mouthwatering. The texture is supple and flowing, built for sharing rather than contemplation.

It is a natural partner for pizza, grilled meats, burgers, roast chicken, pasta and casual gatherings. Best enjoyed young for its vibrant fruit and charm, though it will hold comfortably for three to five years.
