A blend of 75/25% '95-planted cabernet sauvignon/'90-planted malbec. Matured in French barriques (15% new). A very bright crimson purple announces a perfumed and brightly fruited wine with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry leaf, hedgerow and subtle cedar scents. Medium bodied, this is a good deal denser and more structured than the '23. Having said that, it's very nicely balanced and can be enjoyed now. A lovely example to drink over the next six to eight years. Drink to 2034.

Deep and dense ruby hue, with purple tints at the edge. Blackberry, mulberry, tobacco and cedar shavings lift from the glass. The palate sings with grace and harmony remarkable for its youth. Cassis, anise, violets and graphite are wrapped in a mesh of fine grained tannins. It carries incredibly long and the finish, when it eventually arrives, is a masterclass of balance and poise. Drink to 2043.

The 2024 Agincourt Cabernet Malbec is leafy and a little green, both aromatically and in the mouth, and the texture of the tannins further emphasizes this aspect of the wine. There are also notes of raspberry leaf tea, alongside violet, cassis and a hint of pomegranate. The greengage aspect is quite pronounced, which takes it off the path of "expected characters," however it is a detailed and vibrant wine. It is racy and very good. Drink to 2034.

The 2024 Agincourt release is a 75/25 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec grown in the namesake block of vines in the Yarra Yering vineyard. Malbec was first planted in this block in 1990 and Cabernet in 1995, with the selection of clones for both varieties a steady evolution since the first vines.

The fruit was hand harvested, with the Cabernet destemmed, sorted by individual berries and crushed into Yarra Yering’s half-tonne open tea chest fermenters, with a small 5% whole bunch fermented for enhanced perfume. The Malbec was destemmed into those small fermenters and hand plunged twice daily. Maturation took place in French Bordeaux-barrels of which just 10% were new.
