95 oints Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front
Silver Medal at the 2025 Yarra Valley Wine Show
The cooler 2024 season has delivered a wine led by minerality, lemony citrus zing and zest. Softened through malolactic fermentation, there is a light yoghurt creaminess to the palate texture, with a pithy intensity enhancing the weight and depth. Oak is present yet integrated, adding a fine tannin structure and a gentle phenolic grip. A well-balanced and compelling wine. This has youth on its side and is likely to flesh out with some bottle maturation.
The Crécy block is planted to a combination of modern Chardonnay clones alongside our traditional old vine Yarra Yering clone: seven unique plantings of clone and rootstock, with 35% old vine clone, 35% clone 548 and 30% clone 95.
The grapes were hand harvested, with whole bunches chilled overnight before being pressed for the finest quality juice. The unclarified juice was sent directly to barrels for fermentation (all French with 40% new). 100% malolactic fermentation was allowed, and the wine was left untouched on full lees for ten months. After blending, a four-month rest in tanks after blending added to yeast complexity, weight and texture ahead of bottling.
