There is always a sense of adventure with BK Wines and the Skin n Bones Savagnin might just be one of their coolest expressions yet. Working from the elevated slopes of Lenswood, Brendon and Kirstyn Keys embrace the variety’s naturally high acidity and savoury personality, crafting a wine that feels energetic, textural and just a little bit rebellious. Savagnin is still a rare sight in the Adelaide Hills, yet the cool climate, long ripening season and mineral laced soils give it a natural home here. Minimal intervention in the cellar allows the fruit to speak clearly, with skin contact adding grip, intrigue and a slightly wild edge.
Cloudy pale gold with a hint of lemon skin tint, the wine bursts from the glass with aromas of green apple, preserved citrus and quince alongside ginger spice, chamomile and a distinctive alpine herb freshness. There is a salty, almost Jura like savouriness that makes you sit up and pay attention. Across the palate it feels juicy yet structured, layers of crunchy pear, lemon rind and subtle nuttiness carried by bright, zippy acidity and gentle phenolic texture. The finish is dry, mouthwatering and seriously moreish.
This is the sort of wine that brings instant good vibes. Think sunny afternoons, mates dropping by unannounced, records playing and something delicious sizzling on the barbecue. It absolutely loves food too. Fried chicken, pork bao, salty anchovies, hard cheeses or even just a bowl of olives will make it sing. Best enjoyed young while its playful energy is front and centre, though a few years in the cellar will add extra savoury depth. A fun, cool and character packed Lenswood Savagnin that shows BK Wines at their creative best.
