Medium-bodied, juicy Barossa Shiraz with earthy, plush dark fruit, spice and powdery tannins
The 2025 The Whaler pours a deep, crimson colour and opens with dark and spicy fruit aromas that spill into the medium-bodied palate that is richly fruited, with supple layers of rounded fruit held together by fine tannins. Drinks well on release and would be a crowd pleaser at any BBQ party.
A fresh and modern take on Barossa Shiraz, the wine is a blend of fruit sourced across the Barossa Valley with a small inclusion from the higher elevation Eden Valley.
The fruit was handpicked and mostly destemmed, with a tiny inclusion of whole bunches in the small one- to three-tonne stainless steel fermenters that were chilled before some started with indigenous yeasts while others were inoculated with a cultured yeast strain. All received a combination of pumping overs and hand plunging, and the wines were matured for fourteen months in a combination of new and seasoned oak hogsheads.
