2025 Brokenwood Chardonnay, Victoria & NSW

The 2025 Brokenwood Chardonnay pours a pale green colour and opens with lifted grapefruit aromas. Oak notes sit nicely with juicy citrus flavours on the lightly textured palate that is underpinned by a long and pure line of acidity.

This would pair nicely with dishes that offer delicate crunch and clean umami. Try with snapper tostadas with shredded cabbage, creamy avocado, and lime-coriander salsa.

About this wine

The 2025 Brokenwood Chardonnay is a blend of fruit grown mostly in Beechworth (VIC, 70%), complemented with parcels from Yarra Valley (VIC, 19%) and the Hunter Valley (NSW, 11%).

The wine saw oxidative handling, leading to low phenolic levels and enhanced complexity. It was fermented using indigenous yeast mostly in French oak barrels (of which roughly a third were new), with a small portion fermented in stainless steel.

About this producer

Hunter Valley based Brokenwood was established in 1970 by Tony Albert, John Beeston, and James Halliday, with first vines planted in Pokolbin the year after. Since the early 1980s fruit sourcing has expanded beyond the Hunter, and today, the well-regarded wines are made from grapes grown in Orange, Central Ranges, Gundagai, Canberra District and Tumbarumba (NSW) as well as Beechworth (VIC), Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale (SA), and finally Margaret River (WA).

The winemaking team is lead by Stuart Hordern and Kate Sturgess, while work in the 64-hectare vineyards is guided by Katrina Barry.
