Coriole was founded in 1967 by Hugh and Molly Lloyd after purchasing their Chaffeys Road property in McLaren Vale with its existing Shiraz vineyard. Today, the second and third-generation family members are the caretakers of a much-enlarged viticultural heritage, with 25 vineyard sites across Blewitt Springs, Willunga and McLaren Flat, and vines up to 90 years old.
The Songbird Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from estate grown fruit and seeks to remind us of the freshness and aromatic lift Cabernet Sauvignon can provide. The name is a reference to the large range of birds observed on the property. The 2025 season was warm across South Australia, the early harvest producing McLaren reds that are big and rich. Open fermented, with gentle hand plunging for a subtle extraction of tannins. Matured for 12 months in well-seasoned oak barrels.
A highly aromatic Cabernet, with aromas of mulberry and cassis framed by subtle bay leaf aromas. Medium- to full-bodied with vibrant, rich black fruit and hints of dark chocolate and vanilla. The tannins add a subtle but refreshing backdrop.
Open at impromptu gatherings for grilled rump steaks with charred broccolini and salsa verde or take the slow approach with slow-braised pork shoulder ragu with pappardelle.
