2025 Dalrymple Single Site Chardonnay, Coal River Valley

The warmer 2025 vintage greets us on the nose of this wine, which opens with white nectarines and peaches, ripe lemon curd and grapefruit notes adding to an overall impression of rich and generous aromas. The nose spills harmoniously onto the palate, with medium-weight flavours framed by subtle oak derived tannins and the fine line of acidity stretching the fruit to a long finish.

The wine shows a lovely late summer balance of richness and restraint and would sit well at an elevated weekend catch-up over pan-seared flounder with almonds, beurre noisette and crispy sage. Alternatively, open a bottle for Cantonese ginger and spring onion mud crabs or lobster with e-fu noodles.

About this wine 

The grapes for this wine were grown in a southeast facing block of Dalrymple’s Coal River Valley. The vines are twelve years old on average and stand in rocky dolerite soils with patches of sandy loam.

The 2025 season started with a good spring soaking but was otherwise warm and dry. The fruit was handpicked and whole bunch pressed with free run juice and pressings kept separate. Fermentation took place in a combination of French oak puncheons and a ceramic egg, with lees stirring starting towards the end of this, and continuing bi-weekly for three months, or until most of the malolactic fermentation was completed. The wine then rested and was topped up regularly during an eight-month period ahead of blending and bottling.

About this producer

The home of Dalrymple Vineyards is on the slopes of Pipers River in northern Tasmania. Established in 1987 by Bertel and Anne Sundstrup with Jill Mitchell, the site was acquired by Hill-Smith Family Vineyards in 2007. Peter Caldwell has been the steward of Dalrymple in the vineyards and the winery alike since 2010.
