This is the latest Pinot Noir release from Decades, with the previous 2024 vintage rated 96 points by both Halliday Wine Companion and The Wine Advocate.

We’ll add our tasting notes for this wine soon, but as production is small (350 six packs), you might want to place your order now, as these bottles do not gather dust on our shelves.

Here’s what Steve himself sees in a glass of the 2025:

“Our 2025 Pinot Noir has all the classic blue fruits that come from the Coal River Valley’s unique black clay soil. The fruit characters are dense, with a touch of Campari spice aroma, from the small whole bunch parcel. The region does fruit density exceptionally well, but we’ve tried to tease out a little perfume delicacy.”

More about this wine

The fruit was hand-picked in two parcels: the first fermented as whole bunches, the second de-stemmed, then cold soaked for five days before a slow fermentation. Both were fermented with indigenous yeasts, and the pressed into seasoned French oak for malolactic fermentation and a rest on lees for a total of nine months. The wine was then bottled in the first days of February 2026.

About this producer

Decades is the joint venture of well-regarded winemaker Steve Flamsteed (ex-Giant Steps and currently also winemaker for Victorian Eldridge Estate and Salo wineries) and Brad Rogers, his life-long friend and former chief brewer at Matilda Bay and co-founder of Stone & Wood.

They purchased a small established 2.5-hectare vineyard in the Tea Tree area of Tasmania’s southern Coal River Valley in 2022. Planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, they have since planted two additional blocks of mostly Pinot Nor with multiple clones and rootstocks, taking the total to 9.5 hectares.

Daily vineyard operations are managed by their neighbour Paul Laing of Mapleton Vineyard, who happens to be the former owner of the original Decades vineyard block.
