Established by the Towner family in 2007, Flametree has built a strong reputation as one of Margaret River's most consistent producers, with winemaker Cliff Royle selecting fruit from growers across the region's distinct subregions.
The 2025 Pinot Grigio comes from the Challice Estate vineyard in the Wallcliffe subregion, planted on gravelly clay loams that follow a creek line and produce moderate, well-balanced crops. The clay content retains moisture through the season, keeping vines stress-free and fruit development even. The 2025 growing season was close to ideal. Good winter rainfall, moderate spring temperatures and warm days with cooling afternoon winds delivered near-perfect ripening conditions across the region.
Fruit was machine harvested in the cool of the early morning and given a few hours of skin contact before pressing, a deliberate choice to build the texture and flavour the style calls for. Free run juice was fermented in stainless steel on light solids, with a portion of pressings fermented in older oak puncheons and blended back for added weight and complexity.
The 2025 is aromatic and immediately appealing, with nashi pear, elderflower, kiwi fruit and granny smith apple on the nose, and a hint of lees. The palate is fresh and floral, with a clean acid line and a touch of phenolic grip adding texture. A refreshing, easy-drinking white for warmer weather.
Serve well chilled alongside grilled prawns or a light salad.
