Freycinet Louis Pinot Noir from Bicheno on Tasmania’s east coast is a graceful and beautifully polished expression of the island’s cool maritime terroir. The vineyards sit on ancient granite and sandy loam soils overlooking the Tasman Sea, where long sunny days and cold ocean nights create slow ripening conditions that build perfume, structure and natural acidity. Named in honour of the Freycinet family heritage, the Louis bottling captures the estate style in a more youthful, immediately charming frame. Hand picked fruit and gentle winemaking deliver purity, fine tannins and a silky texture that is unmistakably Freycinet.
Fragrant notes of red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry weave through rose petals, spice and a touch of coastal herb. Beneath the bright fruit lies a subtle earthy nuance and a cool mineral thread echoing the granite beneath the vines. As it opens, hints of cranberry, rhubarb and soft oak spice add quiet complexity.
The palate is lithe and elegant with juicy red fruits gliding over beautifully fine tannins. Flavours of cherry compote, pomegranate, red plum and a whisper of forest floor build in delicate layers. The natural acidity brings lift and a clean, persistent finish that lingers with spice and ocean freshness. It is delicious young but will gain savoury detail over the next five to seven years.
Brilliant with duck breast, Tasmanian salmon, mushroom risotto, roast pork with herbs or a simple plate of charcuterie and soft cheeses. A Pinot Noir that speaks clearly of the east coast breeze and the care of a pioneering Tasmanian producer.
