Pale straw in the glass with aromas of freshly squeezed lime, grapefruit and green apple. Hints of citrus blossom, crushed riverstone, lemon curd, distant crushed herbs and almond paste. Plenty of limey/appley flavour here, all held in place by a stony, mineral-laden acid line. Finishes dry, long and pure.

Hughes & Hughes Riesling from Southern Tasmania is a beautifully expressive and finely detailed white wine that highlights the precision and creativity of brothers Jonny and Matt Hughes. Known for their thoughtful, small-batch approach, the pair focus on minimal intervention winemaking that allows Tasmania’s pristine fruit and cool maritime climate to shine. Their Riesling is a vibrant, pure expression of the region’s long growing season, combining delicacy, intensity and mineral drive in perfect harmony.

The fruit is sourced from select vineyards in Southern Tasmania, where the combination of cool nights and long, gentle ripening ensures exceptional balance between ripeness and acidity. The grapes are hand picked and gently pressed, then fermented with natural yeasts in stainless steel, with a small portion matured on fine lees to enhance texture and mouthfeel. The result is a wine of crystalline clarity, lively energy and subtle complexity.

In the glass it appears pale straw with green tinges. The aroma is lifted and refreshing, showing lime zest, lemon blossom and green apple, layered with hints of white flowers and crushed stone. On the palate it is dry and taut, with precise citrus and mineral flavours supported by crisp acidity and a silky texture. The finish is long, clean and mouthwatering, reflecting both the purity of fruit and the restraint of winemaking.

Hughes & Hughes Riesling pairs beautifully with oysters, sashimi, Thai salads or lightly spiced seafood dishes. It also complements fresh goat cheese and dishes with lime or lemongrass. Delicious in its youth, it will reward cellaring for up to ten years, developing honeyed and toasty complexity while retaining its refreshing core.:
