2025 Jane Eyre Pinot Noir, Tasmania

From three mature sites in the state’s north; wild ferment, then 10 months in French oak. As usual, some slightly darker fruits here, black and dark red, but composed and refined with it, as these wines always are, with transparency and detail favoured over opulence. There are some floral notes here, too, in the blue-to-purple zone, somewhat dusky, along with warm ground spices. This is the most generous of the regional trio – though the prior elegance qualification applies – supple and textural, with a sustained length. Very good indeed.

Gippsland-born Jane Eyre has lived in Bourgogne for almost 25 years where she began her négociant business in 2011 after experiences at Dominique Lafon and Domaine Newman. She was recently nominated the winemaker for the historic Domaine du Comte Armand in Pommard.

Not content with that enviable list of names, she manages to produce sought-after wines in Australia, with fruit sources in Tasmania, Yarra Valley and the Mornington Peninsula.
