Leeuwin Estate Art Series Sauvignon Blanc is a quietly confident expression of Margaret River that shows just how refined and complex Sauvignon Blanc can be when it is grown and handled with intent. The vineyards sit close to the Indian Ocean, where cooling sea breezes, bright light and long ripening seasons preserve natural acidity while allowing flavour to build slowly. Leeuwin Estate is one of the founding wineries of Margaret River, established in the early nineteen seventies by Denis and Tricia Horgan with early guidance from Robert Mondavi. While the Art Series is best known globally for Chardonnay and Cabernet, Sauvignon Blanc has long been an important part of the estate’s story. It is treated with the same seriousness as the flagship wines, with careful vineyard selection and a focus on elegance rather than overt aromatics.

The wine opens with lifted but composed aromatics. Fresh lime, lemon zest and pink grapefruit sit alongside passionfruit and white peach, but nothing feels exaggerated. With air, more subtle notes emerge. Fresh herbs, cut grass, citrus blossom and a faint flinty edge add complexity and restraint.

On the palate, this is distinctly Margaret River in style. The fruit is bright and precise rather than punchy, carried by clean, energetic acidity. There is a gentle textural element through the mid palate that gives shape and interest, likely influenced by lees work, and a subtle saline note on the finish that reflects the coastal influence. It finishes dry, crisp and very food friendly, with length and clarity rather than volume.

This is a Sauvignon Blanc that really shines at the table. It works beautifully with seafood, oysters, grilled prawns, sashimi or goat’s cheese, and it also handles lightly spiced or herb driven dishes with ease.
