Little Yering is the modern face of Yering Station, Victoria’s oldest vineyard, first planted in 1838 and revived in the late 20th century. As the approachable tier of this historic estate, it benefits from serious vineyard resources while delivering immediate drinkability. The wines are crafted under the direction of Yering Station’s winemaking team, led by Chief Winemaker Sarah Crowe, whose philosophy centres on regional expression, texture and balance. Fruit is drawn from across the Yarra Valley, where cool nights and long ripening shape fragrant, finely structured Pinot Noir.
Viticulture focuses on site selection and gentle handling to preserve aromatics. In the winery, extraction is carefully managed to build soft tannins without heaviness, and oak is used with restraint to support rather than dominate. The intention is a Pinot that reflects Yarra Valley brightness and savoury nuance while remaining accessible.
Bright ruby in colour, the aromas open with red cherry, strawberry and raspberry layered with subtle spice and a touch of forest floor. The palate is medium bodied and supple, with red fruit wrapped in fine tannins and fresh acidity. Savoury undertones and gentle oak spice carry through a smooth, lingering finish.
It pairs beautifully with duck, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes and roast chicken. Drinking impressively now for its freshness and charm, it will cellar comfortably for five to seven years.
