Once again, this is a blend of all estate varieties – grenache, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and chenin blanc – but it is noticeably different to the two other iterations. Evolution. And good for it. The cabernet sinks into the background this time, letting the red fruits take the stage – cranberry, wild raspberry, sour cherry. It’s textural, and with remarkable intensity for the freshness. On the palate, flavours of poached pear, red florals, dried Mediterranean herbs and subtle souk spices enter the picture. The finish is chewy, sapid and long, with older oak and mlf adding complexity. Oh, and the colour, a classically pale rose gold. A serious rosé as it warms a little, but also just a charming drink at a brisk temperature.

MMAD Vineyard Blewitt Springs Rosé is a beautifully crafted, textured rosé from one of McLaren Vale’s most exciting single sites. MMAD Vineyard is a project between Michael Hill Smith MW, Martin Shaw, Adam Wadewitz, and David LeMire MW (the name MMAD comes from their initials), focusing on old vines and exceptional terroir in Blewitt Springs. This subregion of McLaren Vale is known for its elevated sandy soils, cooling breezes, and the ability to produce wines with both brightness and depth.
The rosé is made from a blend of Grenache, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chenin Blanc, sourced from mature vines planted in the 1930s and 1940s. Blewitt Springs’ deep sands over ironstone create low-yielding vines that give intensely flavoured, aromatic fruit with vibrant acidity. Grapes are hand harvested and pressed gently with limited skin contact to achieve a delicate, pale pink colour. Fermentation takes place in a combination of stainless steel and neutral oak to preserve freshness while adding subtle texture and complexity. The Chenin Blanc component lifts the perfume and sharpens the acid line, while the red varieties bring weight and savoury nuance.
In the glass, the rosé is pale salmon with a shimmering hue. The nose is aromatic and precise, showing wild strawberries, white peach, citrus blossom, and a hint of spice. The palate is dry, finely structured, and textural, with juicy red berry and stone fruit flavours balanced by refreshing acidity and a subtle savoury edge. The finish is long, clean, and mineral, making it both elegant and food friendly.
This rosé pairs beautifully with grilled prawns, seared tuna, Mediterranean salads, charcuterie, or soft cheeses. It’s equally at home as a sophisticated aperitif. Best enjoyed within a couple of years of vintage to capture its vibrancy, though the structure gives it enough depth for short-term cellaring.
