A blend of fruit from the Moorabool Valley and Bellarine Peninsulas. 20% new oak and 20% mlf. A bright green gold. Aromas of ripe nectarine, apple blossom, a lick of vanillin and light sea spray scents lead onto the palate, which is flavoursome and nicely balanced. There's a fine thread of acidity keeping it both structured and focused and, while this is still a baby, it will become even more harmonious and complex over the next six to 12 months or so.

Mulline Chardonnay is a beautiful expression of cool climate Geelong, shaped by ocean influence, ancient soils and a quietly confident hand in the winery. Sourced from vineyards close to Port Phillip Bay, the fruit benefits from long, slow ripening, preserving natural acidity and fine detail. The soils here are a mix of clay and limestone, a combination that gives Chardonnay its signature line and subtle savoury edge in this part of Victoria.

The wine is made by Ben Mullen, the driving force behind Mulline. His background working with some of Victoria’s best producers shows in the restraint and precision of the style. Fermentation is typically wild, with careful use of oak rather than dominance, allowing the vineyard to speak first. Lees contact adds texture and depth, but everything remains balanced and fresh rather than rich or heavy.

Expect aromas of white peach, lemon curd and nectarine, layered with hazelnut, subtle struck match and a gentle creamy note from time on lees. The palate is taut and finely structured, with citrus drive, stone fruit purity and a saline finish that reflects its maritime origins. There is real energy here, not just flavour.

This is a natural partner for food. Grilled king prawns, roast chicken with butter and herbs, snapper with fennel, or a simple dish of pasta with lemon and olive oil all let the wine shine. The balance of acidity and texture also makes it excellent with richer dishes without overwhelming them.

Mulline Chardonnay drinks beautifully on release but will reward patience over five to eight years, developing more complexity and savoury nuance with time in the cellar. It is a confident, modern Australian Chardonnay that quietly shows why Geelong continues to punch well above its weight.
