A distinctive varietal bouquet led by scents of plums and dark cherry, some earthy smoky barrel spice layers, a mix of clay mineral and sweet wood quality. Dry, textured with fine tannins, crisp with medium+ acid line and flavours of strawberry and cherry fruits, some red apple and earthy energy. Nga Waka has been one of Martinborough's benchmark wineries since 1988, earning a loyal following for wines that faithfully express the region's cool climate character. Founded by acclaimed winemaker Roger Parkinson, the estate has built its reputation on meticulous vineyard management and understated winemaking, allowing Pinot Noir to shine with purity, elegance and a genuine sense of place. Since 2024, winemaking has been led by Paul Mason, formerly of Martinborough Vineyard, bringing a wealth of regional experience and a continued focus on finesse and site expression. The 2025 vintage produced beautifully balanced fruit, with warm days and cool nights encouraging slow, even ripening. Carefully selected vineyard parcels were gently handled to preserve vibrant aromatics, fine tannins and the freshness that has made Martinborough one of New Zealand's great Pinot Noir regions.

Bright ruby with crimson highlights, the bouquet opens with aromas of wild cherry, raspberry and red plum layered with dried herbs, subtle spice and delicate forest floor notes. The palate is silky and beautifully balanced, combining vibrant red berry fruit with fine tannins, lively acidity and a gentle savoury edge. Fresh, elegant and wonderfully persistent, the finish lingers with spice, earthy complexity and classic Martinborough charm.

A superb match for roast duck, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, herb roasted chicken or a charcuterie board with soft cheeses. Deliciously approachable in its youth, this expressive Pinot Noir will continue to reward careful cellaring over the next five to seven years.
