Structured and powerful Margaret River icon with extended cellaring potential
Due In November 1 2026
Another outstanding wine in this fabulous lineage of Pierro chardonnays. It was a slightly warmer year, yet the wine presents with subtlety and refined elegance. Mealy, light quince paste and crumbly brioche characters and a little nougat. It is remarkably complex even now. Incredible depth and concentration, but with that elegance and linear mouthfeel. These wines age brilliantly. Drink to 2045.
98 points Ray Jordan Wine Review 2027
Pierro Chardonnay from Margaret River is one of Australia’s great white wines, a benchmark of precision and elegance crafted by Dr Mike Peterkin, one of the region’s founding winemakers. This wine represents the pinnacle of Margaret River Chardonnay, where richness, texture, and minerality are brought together in perfect harmony. Each vintage is handled with extraordinary care, using traditional techniques that draw inspiration from Burgundy but express the distinct character of the Wilyabrup subregion.
From the somewhat warmer season, the 2025 fruit was sourced from five high density blocks of mature vines with an average age of 30 years. The fruit was hand-picked in nine picks over several weeks concluding in the first week of March. The chilled fruit was hand-sorted and whole-bunch pressed for fermentation into Burgundian oak of which 26% were new. Most of the wine was allowed malolactic conversion, was regularly lees stirred during its 12-month maturation in oak and filtered once in preparation for bottling.
The resulting wine has power, but also restraint and purity, hallmarks of Pierro’s style. While irresistibly complex on release, past releases have shown us that the wine will reveal much more of its personality after a couple of years in the bottle, and that it is likely to gain in complexity and richness for fifteen years or more under good cellaring conditions.
