Pooley Wines was established in 1985 when Denis and Margaret Pooley planted ten rows of Riesling and seven rows of Pinot Noir on their farm at Cooinda Vale in the Coal River Valley — a retirement project that quietly became one of Tasmania's most admired wine estates. Three generations of the family have shaped it since, with winemaker Anna Pooley now at the helm, bringing precision and a deep sense of place to everything produced under the label.
This Riesling draws on younger vine fruit from the family's Cooinda Vale and Butcher's Hill vineyards. Whole bunch pressed and aged on fine lees before bottling, the approach is geared entirely toward preserving the natural acidity and aromatic purity that make Coal River Valley Riesling so compelling.
The 2025 is bright, focused and immediately inviting. Citrus blossom and lime on the nose with a hint of white jasmine, leading to a palate of real intensity and clarity. The acidity is the driving force, linear and refreshing, with a long, clean finish that lingers well beyond the last sip.
A versatile wine at the table. Try it with freshly shucked oysters, grilled fish or lighter Thai dishes. Drink now through 2030.
