Quealy Wines has long been one of the Mornington Peninsula’s most influential estates when it comes to Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio. The winery was founded by Kathleen Quealy and Kevin McCarthy, pioneers who helped introduce these varieties to Australia and champion their potential in the cool maritime climate of the Peninsula. Today the wines are crafted by highly regarded winemaker Tom McCarthy, whose thoughtful approach continues the estate’s focus on site expression and balance. Musk Creek is one of the Mornington Peninsula’s most respected vineyard areas, where clay rich soils and cooling breezes from Western Port help Pinot Gris develop both aromatic complexity and vibrant freshness.
The wine shows a pale straw colour with a subtle silver hue. Aromas open with ripe pear, apple and white peach layered with hints of ginger, citrus peel and delicate floral notes. With time in the glass subtle almond and spice characters emerge, adding depth and intrigue. The palate is textured yet lively with flavours of orchard fruit, nashi pear and citrus supported by refreshing acidity and a gentle savoury edge.
The finish is long and balanced with a soft rounded mouthfeel that makes the wine both expressive and easy to enjoy. It works beautifully with fresh seafood, roast chicken, pork dishes or lightly spiced Asian flavours.
