2025 Saint Clair Origin Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough

A classic style from the SC Estate stable with a bouquet and palate of freshness and fleshy textures, crispness and readiness to drink. Aromas and flavours of apple and grapefruit, a mix of passionfruit and lime then fresh basil and white spice. Well made, as always, crisp and salivating, ready to drink from 2025 through 2027.

The 2025 Sauvignon Blanc Origin offers classic passion fruit with a pithy edge of grapefruit and elderflower. It's a little tighter than the classic Saint Clair style and perhaps not as flamboyant, but I rather like its linear feel and punchier expression with elevated tension. Drink to 2028.

The Origin wines from Saint Clair are regional blends of a given variety that drink well on release and offer good value-for-money.

The fruit for the Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from a selection of vineyards located mostly in the lower Wairau sub-region. Each vineyard is harvested as the fruit matures, the grapes pressed off to minimise skin contact and the juice cold settled. The batches are then fermented at cool temperatures using selected yeast strains. The wines are then assessed for quality and style ahead of blending and early bottling.

Saint Clair Family Estate was established in 1994 by Neal and Judy Ibbotson, with their children Sarina, Tony and Julie today involved in all aspects of the operations. The family farms a substantial 160 of vineyards, and sources fruit through an extensive network of contract growers. Marlborough and its subregions have been the focus from the beginning, while smaller amount of premium red wines is made from fruit grown in the Gimblett Gravels area of Hawke’s Bay. Stewart Maclenann and Kyle Thompson are the current leaders of the winery team that each vintage creates an impressively broad line-up of wines.
