Very appealing with a lovely flinty, smoky aroma. On the palate there's lots of precise, just-ripe peach and red grapefruit flavours. Whilst the acidity is high, the gentle, lightly grippy phenolics give succulence and texture. The finish is moderately long and with a charming intensity of fruit 12 Jan 2026 Drink 2026–2028

Te Kairanga Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Martinborough, is a distinctive New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that shows restraint, texture and a strong sense of place rather than overt aromatics. Te Kairanga is one of Martinborough’s most established estates, with vineyards planted on the region’s famous free draining alluvial gravels laid down by the Ruamahanga River. These stony soils, combined with cool nights and long sunny days, naturally limit vigour and build flavour slowly, giving Sauvignon Blanc more structure and savoury depth than many coastal styles. The estate focuses on expressing Martinborough’s dry, windswept climate and vineyard character, producing wines that are balanced, food friendly and quietly complex.

Pale straw in colour with green highlights, the wine opens with aromas of lime zest, grapefruit, white peach and fresh herbs, supported by subtle passionfruit and a gentle mineral note. The palate is crisp yet composed, with citrus and stone fruit flavours carried by bright acidity and a lightly textured mid palate. There is a savoury, slightly saline edge through the finish that reflects the gravel soils and keeps the wine refreshing rather than sharp.

This is a Sauvignon Blanc made to sit comfortably at the table, pairing beautifully with grilled fish, shellfish, goat’s cheese, fresh salads, asparagus and herb driven dishes. Best enjoyed young for its freshness and vibrancy, it will also hold well over three to five years as it develops extra texture and complexity.
