2025 The Lane Vineyard Chardonnay, Adelaide Hills

This one had me as soon as I brought these heady aromas to the nose. Obviously, it’s influenced by the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills, and immediately strikes with a combination of light lemon curd, citrus and stone fruit, with a little apple-y character most evident. The palate brings in a more savory complexity with light cashew notes. It has texture, but then there is that crisp acidity which provides the definition to extend through to a sustained finish. Beautifully balanced and most stylish. Drink to 2036.

Soft, plush and ready to go, this is a fine introductory Adelaide Hills Chardonnay. One of the earliest Hills vintages on record has delivered a wine that is ready to be opened and enjoyed. Chock full of sunny flavour and approachability, it wisely employs subtle oak as a seasoning rather than the star, allowing the full sway of fruit to make an impact in peach, nectarine, melon, lemon citrus and spice with an inviting complex contribution of grilled nuts. Juicy citrus notes really work the tastebuds with pith and lemon skin bringing additional zestiness. Makes its mark in flavour and on price. Drink to 2031.

The Lane Vineyard is a family-owned Adelaide Hills property established in 1993. With an elevation of 370 to 450 metres, its Balhannah vineyards are divided across numerous parcels, each offering differing aspects of the rolling hills of ancient gravelly soils, while fruit is also sourced from other growers in the broader region.

The business is certified by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, which looks at all aspects of wine production from vineyards to winery, and encapsulates protection of local bushland and wildlife.
