Fleshy and vibrant Dixon Creek Chardonnay with flinty spice
Made with 10% new oak, 20% mlf. A bright, fruit-driven wine with its bouquet of nectarine, green apple and a touch of spice. The palate is equally fruit-driven and moreish with crunchy acidity, making this a quaffable wine to drink now and over the next two to three years. Drink to 2030.
92 points Philip Rich for Halliday Wine Companion, June 2026
Juicy, stone fruit, pear and citrus, a light cinnamon spiced pastry dough. It’s medium-bodied, fleshy and flavoursome, a bit of gloss and spice, a flourish of flinty bits, and it finishes well. An ample wine that’s balanced and good to drink.
91 points Gary Walsh for The Wine Front
Toolangi is an 11-hectare vineyard in Dixons Creek at the cooler northern end of Yarra Valley. Established in 1995 by Gary and Julie Hounsell, highly respected long term winemaker Kaspar Hermann took over this beautiful site in 2026, starting an exciting new chapter for the label that is set to be one of the brightest stars in the region.
All fruit is grown in-house, with focus on block specific wines from the sustainably managed site on fine clay loam soils and utilising organic and regenerative farming practices for the best quality outcome. The varieties planted are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The Toolangi Chardonnay is a blended from blocks across the site and showcases its 23-year-old vines of Gingin, Mendoza and I10V3 clones.
The 2025 growing season began with a warm and dry spring which continued into summer resulting in an early and compressed vintage. This vintage underwent partial malolactic fermentation within its nine-month maturation in oak barrels, the resulting wine showing vibrant and powerful fruit whilst retaining regional distinction.
