2026 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Riesling, Margaret River

Despite all the naysaying about the appropriateness of riesling in Margaret River, this wine, year in, year out, produces quite beautiful expressions of this variety. And this is certainly one of the best. Nice floral notes with citrus, lemon pith, and a little orange pulpiness on the nose. The palate has a minerally zinginess about it, with a crisp acidity bringing life and energy through to its long finish. There's great flavour intensity here, held with control and focus. Leeuwin Estate was one of the pioneers of Margaret River when it was established in 1973 by Denis and Tricia Horgan, with the first vineyard blocks planted in 1975. Three generations of the family work today along a team of dedicated viticulturalists and winemakers, with focus on sustainable viticulture. Estate grown fruit is complemented by grapes purchased from long-term contract growers.

The grapes for this wine were machine-picked at night and pressed immediately, the juice floated and bottom racked off gross lees before it was warmed and inoculated with cultivated neutral yeast cultures for a two-week fermentation in closed stainless steel vats at cool 12–13 degrees. Post-fermentation, the select parcels were blended, fined and stabilised in preparation for bottling.
