Joyous Chardonnay with floral citrus aromas and silky textured fleshy flavours of white stonefruit dipped in lemon curd
The 2026 Medhurst Yarra Valley Chardonnay pours a pale luminescent green tinged colour and fills it vicinity with intensely floral and saline aromas of citrus blossoms and fruits. The silky palate has lovely, fleshy intensity with a core of delicious, ripe white stonefruit dipped in lemon curd.
This is such a joyous Chardonnay. There’s a delicate touch of oak spice here, but it really is a subtle side note to the lively fruit. It feels open and welcoming, with a perfect balance to the fruit weight and the flinty acidity that extends the flavours. While it no doubt would keep well for several years, it would be a pity not to enjoy its youthful beauty.
You won’t need food for this one, but if you happen to be in the mood for some light pottering in the kitchen, you could try this with pan-seared scallops with a corn-lemongrass purée scattered with crispy fried fresh curry leaves. Or simply grill some flatbread and zucchini ribbons and unleash your creativity assembling these with some whipped feta, fresh mint, a drizzle of your favourite olive oil and maybe a grating of lemon zest. Proper hungry? Pork katsu with a crunchy and juicy slaw might be what you need.
More about this wine
This wine was made from estate grown fruit from the north facing Medhurst Block A where vines stand at an elevation of 130-150 metres.
Picked early in the morning between the 4th and the 14th of March, this wine is a blend of Chardonnay clones I10V1 and Mendoza. The fruit was chilled in a cool room until the following morning and pressed cold, with the juice spending 24 hors in a stainless steel tank before it was fermented with full solids to French oak barrel of which 15% were new. The wine went through partial malolactic conversion during its seven-month time in the barrels
About this producer
