Tar & Roses was built on a deep familiarity with Mediterranean varieties and styles. The Pinot Grigio is probably their best known wine, and a good example of the collaborative effort, care and attention to detail that the great value wines from this producer receive before they are shipped out to you.
Showcasing remarkably consistent and high quality every year, this much-loved white from winemaker Narelle King is again a blend of fruit from vineyards in Central Victoria. The machine-harvested grapes were crushed and pressed through a gentle air bag press, and the juice fermented in stainless steel at a cool 10 to 15 degrees.
This lands weight wise almost in the richer Gris style, while the style leans to Grigio. The wine greets with lifted and spicy aromas of tangerines, apples and white nectarines, and the palate has pleasant grip, structure and density to it, with spicy citrus a notable feature.
Not your light mainstream quaffing style, but rather something that pairs well with flavoursome Mediterranean seafood adorned with citrus, olives and fresh herbs. Try also with Roman style braised artichokes stuffed with mint and garlic, or pork neck souvlaki with lemon and oregano.
