2026 Torbreck Woodcutter's Rosé, Barossa Valley

Pouring a pale, coppery hue of salmon pink, the 2026 Woodcutter’s Rosé greets with fragrant and floral notes of strawberry, lilac, peach juice and rosewater, while a solid core of savoury charcuterie and warm Mediterranean herbs starts slowly emerging as the wine sits in the glass. The medium-bodied palate is fresh, textural and dry, leaving a refreshed feeling as the flavour slowly fade off.

Wines for the warmer months don’t come much more versatile than this. Great to have on hand for a Friday night de-brief as much as it is for a food feast with friends, with the wine sitting particularly well with western Mediterranean cooking.

Modelled after the rich, fragrant dry rosé wines of southern France, with Bandol being the most notable one, Torbreck’s rosé is made from old vine Mataro (aka Mourvèdre) grown in Barossa Valley’s Vine Vale and Ebenezer subregions.

This wine comes to us from the favourable 2026 season. Harvested early compared to the Mataro grapes destined for red wines, the grapes were whole bunch pressed with some skin contact before the juice was bled off for desired colour and aromatics. Fermentation took place in stainless steel, after which the wine spent a brief time maturing in seasoned, neutral barrels for added texture.

Torbreck Vintners was established by Dave Powell in 1994, and from the very beginning, the wines have been no stranger to drama of the very best kind: high international acclaim driven by their power and sense of place. 

The focus has always been on respectful treatment of old vine Barossa fruit through traditional winemaking. Today Chief Winemaker Ian Hongell continues that philosophy, working with growers across the region for access to supplement the special parcels of fruit grown in estate vineyards as well as those grown under custodianship through long-term lease agreements of old vine sites.
